2016
To celebrate the Fourth of July, we went to Subway for sandwiches and walked down to the waterfront.
There were a lot of people out dressed in red, white and blue. Couples holding hands, children giggling, friends taking selfies, kids throwing pop-its at their siblings. Silhouettes of proud Americans waiting.
We moved through the crowd calmly, no hurry in search of our “spot” to watch the show. Then, it started. Along with the oohs and ahhs. Looking up to the sky, smiling. We heard a little girl say, “it’s so beautiful.” And it was.
The crowd of people around us would at times go silent. The only sounds left would be the cracks, pops, and sizzles, with my daughter by my side.
Feeling grateful.
